 Director of Sustainable Development Sector Unit in Europe & Central Asia Region; Melanie Marlett, Country Manager for Moldova; Dejan Ostojic, Lead Energy Specialist, and other representatives from the WB; 7 representatives of active Moldovan civil society organizations, working in the field of agriculture, rural development, energy, social assitance, education and environment.

Short description of the event/outcome: The event aimed at discussing stringent issues to Moldovan real sector development. Peter Thomson  highlighted the key development factors for Moldova, such sectors as agriculture, rural development, instrastructure, roads, energy, environment, social development, etc. He also talked about the Bank support and plans in the respective areas. The immediate tasks Moldova is facing with are related to water resources, such as developing an Irrigation Strategy, issues of waste water, solid waste, climate change, etc. He mentioned that good environmental practices are directly correlated with good economic outlook, so that the future Country Partnership Strategy would definitely address these issues to focus on sustainable development.

Mr. Thomson also listened to the concerns raised by the participants, who gave constructive feedback, and answered many questions.
