Members of Moldova Youth Voice Group Met With Representatives of Moldovan Youth NGOs

YVG06Chisinau, February 20, 2006. Last week the World Bank Moldova Country Office hosted the Meeting of the Youth Voice Group (YVG) and Moldovan Youth NGOs. The objective of the Meeting was to report on the activities of the YVG for 2005 and establish partnerships between the YVG and other national and local NGOs focused on youth issues in view of promoting joint activities, as well as facilitating the YVG06implementation of the World Bank program in Moldova.

Representatives of about 15 national and local NGOs participated in the meeting, including the National Youth Council, National Scouts Movements, National NGO "Motivation" for youth with disabilities, National Youth Employment Center, Regional Youth Council from Tighina, which represents 31 local member organizations, and others.

YVG06The geographic coverage of participants was impresive and broad with representatives of local youth organizations from cities Cahul (South), Balti and Floresti (North), Drochia Raion (North), Orhei and Chisinau (Center). The organizers were glad to have among participants the NGO "World Window " from Tiraspol, considered the "capital " of the separatist area of Moldova who had responded to our invitation.YVG06

The Youth NGOs showed a big interest in the activities of the YVG and each of them expressed suggestions for partnerships both with the YVG as well as with other NGOs. They have also exchanged views on the future activity and role of the YVG-Moldova.

Mr. Brown, the Country Manager for Moldova joined the meeting for a welcome word and answered the questions from those present.

YVG06The Meeting was organized with the support of the National Youth Council and the YVG members.

Background note. The Moldova Youth Voice Group is a project financed by the World Bank starting from March 2004. The Group was selected through a national open contest and it comprised 13 young persons from all regions of Moldova.
