Transport - A well functioning transport system is essential for the growth of Moldova's economy. Agriculture- Agriculture and agro-processing activities account for roughly 30 percent of Moldova’s GDP and a significant part of the population is still directly engaged in the sector. After 1990, the country carried out one of the most ambitious agricultural reform programs among the countries of the former Soviet Union, privatizing state-owned land and giving title to the new private farmers. HIV/AIDS - HIV/AIDS, sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and tuberculosis (TB) are among the most urgent public health problems in Moldova. Through the Moldova TB/AIDS Project, the World Bank is assisting the Government of Moldova to reduce mortality and morbidity as a result of these diseases, as well as to arrest their spread. The project supports Moldova's National Programme for Prevention and Control of HIV/AIDS/STIs and National Programme for TB Control. This program is a key piece of the Government's poverty reduction strategy in the health sector as it works to prevent citizens from falling into poverty due to disabling diseases. Also see:
